Govt starts impounding old, dilapidated PUVs

The government on Wednesday started impounding old public utility vehicles in line with the program to modernize public transportation in the country.

Personnel from the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic impounded two public utility buses, two jeepneys and one tricycle, while summoned the operators of 184 other vehicles found to be unroadworthy.

Most of those vehicles were caught with defective lights, no seat belts, worn out tires while 26 of them were summoned for smoke belching.

Thomas Orbos, I-ACT chief and concurrent general manager of the Metro Manila Development Authority, said they will not be accepting any excuses as they push forward with campaign dubbed “Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok.
