The Energy Department deployed a team of inspectors from its Oil Industry Management Bureau to randomly inspect the inventory of gasoline stations and depots to ensure proper compliance to the oil excise tax implementation.
The department said the inspectors would verify if the excise tax under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act was applied on inventories after December 31, 2017.
Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi also warned against any violation of the TRAIN law.
“Violators may be administratively subjected to the cancellation of their certificates of compliance,” said Cusi.
Energy officials have confirmed that some oil companies implemented the impact of the higher excise tax on petroleum products after their old inventories were depleted.
