It’s official: Ayo is new UST coach

ALDIN Ayo’s passion for discipline and hard work were among the key reasons why school officials of University of Santo Tomas sought to get his services.

UST authorities said this  after they confirmed  the appointment of Ayo as the new  head coach of the Growling Tigers men’s basketball team.

“UST sought his services for two key reasons. First, the basketball program he espouses is based on discipline that gives primary importance to the life of student-athletes, believing that student-athletes who are hardworking in their studies are likewise those who are able to handle themselves properly both on and off the court,” said university officials in an official statement released on their official website.

Ayo takes the place of Boy Sablan after the Growling Tigers finished last in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball season with only one win to show after 14 games.

UST believes in Ayo “as a well-accomplished coach who is likewise more than willing to accommodate the university’s modest salary scheme.”

That Ayo “demonstrated his desire to provide proper guidance to his players in this educative process outweighs everything else,” said the UST officials.

An  official contract signing with the UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics is slated on Jan. 11.

The La Salle Green Archers replaced Ayo with his former assistant coach, Louie Gonzales last week.

Ayo previously steered La Salle in the UAAP and Letran in the NCAA to basketball titles.
