THE Department of Labor and Employment ordered the management of two Japanese-owned companies in Laguna to regularize the employment status of over 1,000 workers after they were found to be engaged in labor-only contracting activities.
DoLE Regional Director Zenaida Angara-Campita directed the Terumo Philippines Corp. and its three contractors to regularize 1,048 workers because the contractors did not have substantial capital and the employees used the principal’s equipment and tools in performing their outsourced services.
Other findings include the non-compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Standards with the contactors lacking with trained safety personnel.
The principal also does not have the permit to operate heavy equipment, including crane, internal combustion engines, pressure vessel and power piping.
Meanwhile, the Toyo Seat Philippines Corp. and its 14 contractors were ordered to regularize 284 of their workers after being barred from engaging in labor-only contracting and subcontracting activities.
DoLE has also ordered the cancelation of the Certificate of Registrations of seven of its contractors and removed from the rosters of legitimate contractors.
The Terumo Philippines Corp. is a manufacturer of syringe and medical equipment while the Toyo Seat Philippines Corp. is an automotive interior parts related business, both employing thousands of Filipino workers.
