PH finishes with 1 gold, 3 silvers, 3 bronzes in Singapore Open

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help bet Francis Medina took the gold medal in the men’s 400-meter hurdles of the recent Singapore National Open Athletics’ meet.

He reached the finish line in 51.3 seconds, moving him close to the bronze-medal standard of 51.36 seconds in the 2016 Southeast Asian Games.

Andrian of Indonesia, who set that bronze-medal standard in the 2015 SEA Games, was second in 51.59, according to results released on the official website of the tournament. 

Laos bet Inthavong Kingkeo finished in 56.09 seconds for the bronze.

Medina, who trained under American coach Roshaan Griffin when he was here a few months ago, improved on his time of 52.82 he set in the Philippine National Open last month.

Overall, Philippine national pool members who joined, earned a total of one gold, three silvers and three bronze medals.

Rhea Joy Sumalpong settled for the silver in the women’s discus throw with her heave of 43.29 meters, behind Yap Jeng Tzan of Malaysia, who won the gold in 45.89 meters.

Immuel Camino took the other silver for the Philippines in 9 minutes, 30.7 seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase, behind Chou Ting Yin of Chinese Taipei (9:11.36).

Riezel Buenaventura and Emily Obiena ended up with a silver and bronze-medal feat in the women’s pole vault, after they cleared 3.4 and 3.2 meters, respectively.

Rachel Isabel Yang of Singapore had a 3.4 meter effort, and won on a better tiebreak with Obiena for the gold medal.

JR Lasangue settled for the bronze medal in the men’s high jump, along with Anfernee Lopena in the 100-meter dash.
