Riding-in-tandem kills Japanese trader in Manila

A Japanese national was killed by riding-in-tandem suspects along Roxas Boulevard in Manila on Thursday evening.

The Manila Police District identified the fatality as 48-year-old Japanese national Seiki Mizuno, who died on the spot.

Mizuno was aboard a van with several companions and were on their way to a hotel in Pasay City after having dinner at Harbor View.

Reports said a passenger identified as John Desbarro sustained a gunshot wound to  the head but survived after he was rushed to the hospital.

Three other Japanese nationals who were also on board the van were unharmed.

According to the driver, Roland Singsing, the suspects both wore shirts, shorts and caps.

Mizuno reportedly just arrived in the Philippines on Thursday to visit his factory in Tanza, Cavite. 

Desbarro, on the other hand, is president of Oakwave Philippines Corp. which manufactures cable harness.  

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) were  still processing the crime scene.

In Caloocan City,  a barangay chairman and his female companion died while two others were injured after unidentified suspects peppered them with bullets while on board a parked vehicle in a supermarket in Valenzuela City on Thursday.

The fatalities were identified as chairman Emmanuel Cruz of Barangay 79 Heroes del 96 in Caloocan City and  Sunshine Garcia, of 272 P. Gomez Street, Caloocan City.

Confined in different hospitals in Valenzuela due to gunshot wounds are Hilda Padayao, 50, barangay 79 councilor and treasurer Joel delos Reyes.

Initial reports showed that the incident took place around 5:10 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Puregold Malanday. The victims were on board a parked Hyundai Accent when unidentified suspects fired at them.

Witness’ account showed that the suspects fled on board an unknown vehicle after emptying their guns of bullets. 

Staff of the supermarket helped the victims to  the hospital. 

Police are still looking into the motive behind the killing, but said that the chairman was reportedly campaigned against the use of illegal drugs in his barangay.
