GPH-NDF fourth round of peace talks set on April 2

The fourth round of peace talks between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) will be held from April 2 to 6, 2017 in Norway.

Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Erik Forner says, the five-day series of meetings will be hosted by the Royal Norwegian Government.

Norwegian Special Envoy Elizabeth Stattum will be at the helm of the talks.

Forner says, the two parties will first discuss socio-economic reforms and the implementation of a new ceasefire between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the rebel group.

For his part, AFP Spokesperson Restituto Padilla says, operations against the NPA continue.

He says, this is because the communist rebels’ attacks against government troops remain relentless.

Padilla says, unless a formal document is signed between government peace negotiators and the NDF, there will be no let-up in the war to end the communist insurgency in the country.

NPA is the armed unit of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) while NDF is the organization’s political wing.
