TACLOBAN CITY—Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez and city government officials on Wednesday welcomed President Rodrigo R. Duterte, who led the turnover of houses for Typhoon “Yolanda” survivors at the New Hope Village in Barangay Sta. Elena here.
Fulfilling his promise to return to check on projects related to “Yolanda” rehabilitation, the President distributed Certificates of House and Lot Allocation to 1,062 beneficiaries of six permanent housing sites in the city.
In a coordination meeting for Duterte’s visit at the City Engineering Office presided by Presidential Management Staff Head Evelyn Clarin, it was learned that of the 1,000 houses at New Hope, 900 units were already raffled off to beneficiaries, while about 500 are now occupied.
NHA Regional Project Manager Rizalde Mediavillo said the CELA beneficiaries came from five housing sites in Tacloban—Villa Sofia, Villa Diana, Guadalupe, Greendale, and North Hill Arbor.
Mediavillo added the CELA beneficiaries complied with the requirements set by the NHA.
The President’s itinerary on Thursday included a turnover and inspection of houses in New Hope Guadalupe. Romualdez gave the welcome address during the ceremony and was to outline the city government’s project for the resettled families to Duterte.
Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. also reported on the status of projects committed by the President during his Nov. 8 visit.
Clarin said water and power utilities have been installed in New Hope Village, some 17 kilometers away from the city center. She said the President’s November visit led to the transfer of 6,000 households to permanent relocation sites.
