Clash of titans in UNTV cagefest

THE top spot in Group B will be at stake on Sunday when two powerhouse squads, Bureau of Customs Transformers and the Philippine National Police Responders clash in the UNTV Cup elimination round at the Pasig City Sports Center.

UNTV Cup, now on its 5th season, is giving away more than P8 million in total prize to the chosen charities of all 13 participating government teams.

The PNP-BOC tussle is set at 5 p.m. as the two teams try to keep their unblemished record intact.

Only two other teams have stayed unbeaten in the tournament, Malacañang and BFP in Group A.

The BOC Transformers are coming off a thrilling 93-92 victory over the House of Representatives, courtesy of a buzzer-beating, half-court winning shot from Gherome Ejercito.

The Responders, meanwhile, last won on Sept. 28 when they toppled NHA 82-75.

BOC’s big man Marlou Aquino will be going up against PNP’s reliable center Harold Sta. Cruz, while former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes of the Transformers will be facing the two-time UNTV Cup MVP Ollan Omiping.

Customs will also get ample support from Ejercito, Bernzon Franco, Samuel Ignacio and Rizal Vonn Ignacio.

In the first game at 2 p.m., winless teams DOJ and GSIS will battle out each other in the race for their first win.
