Cops: QC car thefts decrease

AFTER being tagged as the country’s carjacking capital, the Quezon City police claimed the high incidence of car thefts in the city has dropped by 90 percent in the first semester of 2016.

Sr. Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, QCPD director, attributed the decrease to their intensified anti-crime efforts, adding there were only four reported incidents in the first semester of this year, down by 90 percent compared to 11 reported incidents in 2014.

The city was tagged as the car theft capital due to the large number of stolen vehicles reported way back in 2000. The decline in car theft and carjacking incidents and other crimes in the city was a result of coordinated and continuous peace and order efforts by police and the city government throughout the city’s 142 barangays.
