FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, in collaboration with Junior Achievement Philippines (JA), will send the country’s top delegates to represent the Philippines at the FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (ITC) in Hong Kong on Aug. 7 to 11.
The FedEx /JA ITC is an annual competition that aims to educate high school students on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and instill a global business mindset.
Ten teams from eight schools qualified to compete in the local finals, where they presented their business plans to a judging panel led by John Peterson, managing director of FedEx Express for Philippines, Indonesia, and Brunei. The panel also included Dodgie Perdigon, sales manager at FedEx Express Philippines and Mylene Abiva, president and CEO of Felta Multimedia Inc.
Kylyn Angela Abat and Geraldine Anne Cruz of O.B. Montessori Center Las Piñas, Jermaine Ynna Abenoja and Joaquin Miguel Lacuna of O.B. Montessori Center Greenhills, and Catherine Roa and Christine Anne Roa of International Christian Academy topped the Philippine International Trade Challenge besting 400 delegates from 30 schools around the country. At the regional finals, they will compete against 24 teams representing Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
“FedEx has been supporting the International Trade Challenge since 2009,” said John Peterson. “The program enables aspiring young Filipino entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge and skills that serve as the foundation for their future careers in business. The program also caters to the strong volunteer spirit of FedEx employees who will mentor the students in preparation for the regional finals in Hong Kong.”
FedEx believes in educating youth on the fundamentals of business, economics and entrepreneurship in a global ecosystem.
To date, the program has benefitted 3,844 students in the Philippines with 36 representing the country at the regional challenge. In August 2015, three teams of high school students represented the Philippines in the ITC held in Singapore, where they competed against 24 other teams from eight Asia-Pacific markets.
