As a representative in the House of Representatives, Rep. Janice Z. Salimbangon, now in her second term, is a beacon of hope for the Fourth District. Her initiatives are empowering the district, providing its people with great opportunities for sustainability, and promoting local tourism, paving the way for a brighter future.

Since tourism is one of the major industries in the 4th district of Cebu, Rep. Salimbangon participated in several international events organized by the Department of Tourism to strengthen the tourism sector post-pandemic in the 4th district of Cebu. She actively promoted the diving spots of the island of Malapascua in Daanbantayan and the island of Gibitngil in Medellin during the Diving Equipment Marketing Association (DEMA) Show 2022, held in Orlando, Florida, from October 30 to November 7. She likewise boosted the tourism industry of the 4th district of Cebu to the whole world when she joined the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from April 29 to May 5, and World Travel Market (WTM) 2023 at London, United Kingdom, from November 4 to 10.

Rep. Salimbangon’s belief in presenting Philippine tourism at international events and platforms is not just a belief. It’s a reality. Her efforts have significantly increased the influx of tourists in the district. With its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and vibrant local life, the Fourth District is poised to become a must-visit destination for tourists from all over the world.

Besides tourism and legislative initiatives, Rep. Salimbangon also advocates for children’s protection, 100 percent literacy, and environmental preservation. She has launched various programs and campaigns to ensure the safety and well-being of children, promote literacy, and preserve the environment in the Fourth District.

In the meantime, she has been actively involved in various legislative initiatives during the 19th Congress. One of her significant accomplishments is the successful passage of Republic Act 11991, which re-numbered the Cebu First, Second, Third, and Fourth District Engineering Offices to align with the numbering of the legislative districts in the province. This re-numbering is expected to streamline government processes and improve efficiency in public service delivery in the Fourth District.

Another bill she considers a priority is House Bill 8710, which aims to establish an economic zone to attract major businesses and industries, thereby boosting local economic development and raising living standards in rural areas.

To enhance educational opportunities, Rep. Salimbangon plans to convert the satellite campuses of Cebu Technological University and Cebu Normal University, located within the Fourth District, into regular campuses through House Bill 469. This will dispel the notion that urban education is superior to provincial education and provide local students with greater access to quality higher education.

Additionally, renumbering the district engineering offices through House Bill 7234 is being re-employed to streamline government processes and improve efficiency in public service delivery. The 19th Congress has already approved this initiative through Republic Act No. 11991, which re-numbers the Cebu First, Second, Third, and Fourth District Engineering Offices to align with the corresponding legislative districts in the province.

The House of Representatives has already approved several bills authored by Rep. Salimbangon and are awaiting Senate approval. These bills aim to establish a special economic zone in Medellin, Cebu, convert extension campuses of Cebu Normal University and Cebu Technological University into regular campuses.

Rep. Salimbangon is the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, Committee on Inter-parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy, and Committee on Labor and Employment. Her committee membership includes Accounts, Climate Change, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Visayas Development, and Ways and Means, showing that she’s a dynamic leader who can take on any task to ensure the welfare of her constituents.

Rep. Janice Z. Salimbangon’s unwavering commitment to the Fourth District has made her a driving force behind its transformation. Her tireless efforts, legislative initiatives, and community-driven programs have significantly improved the lives of the people in the Fourth District, making it a thriving and vibrant community. As she continues her journey in public service, Rep. Salimbangon’s legacy as a dedicated and influential leader will undoubtedly endure for generations to come.
