Actress Sanya Lopez has taken to social media to pay tribute to Estelita Dy, one of the comfort women she met, following her passing on Nov. 24 at the age of 94.
In her Instagram stories, Lopez expressed her gratitude for the life Dy had lived and her enduring advocacy for having the voices of fellow comfort women heard.
“Maraming salamat sa buhay mo Lola Estelita,” Lopez wrote.
“Hayaan mo, Lola Estelita. Gagawin ko ang best ko palagi para sa inyong mga naniniwala at nagmamahal sa akin,” the actress added.
Last January, Lopez, who plays the character of Teresita Borromeo in the hit war series “Pulang Araw,” paid a visit to Dy and other comfort women, where she heard their stories of suffering during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.
Lopez has long dedicated her performance on the show to the comfort women who continue to fight for justice and recognition for what they endured during the war.
