In celebration of Global Cat Day on Oct. 16, Hard Rock Cafe Manila hosted a free seminar on cat awareness, behavior, adoption, and welfare. The event featured veterinarians and feline behaviorists who discussed key topics on cat care, including health and nutrition, grooming techniques, and the importance of helping stray cats.
Dr. Apol Guimpayan of Makati Animal Medical Center Inc. opened the seminar with a discussion on the health of cats and kittens, highlighting the importance of regular check-ups and vaccinations. Dr. Ariel Poliquit from Zoetis PH followed with insights into understanding cat behavior, an essential skill for fostering a harmonious home for felines.
Dr. Joan Lumabiang shared insights into the diversity of cat breeds, focusing on their various coats and colors. Lala Ursal addressed grooming practices, while Rina Ortiz from Biyaya Animal Care spoke about stray cat welfare, encouraging community action. Dr. Tat Reano of Broadchem Philippines Biopharma Corporation concluded the event with a session on essential care practices, including core vaccinations, deworming, and the benefits of spaying and neutering.
Clintbrian Peck, Hard Rock Cafe Manila’s Director of Operations, reaffirmed the cafe’s commitment to animal welfare.
“As we celebrate Global Cat Day and Animal Day, it’s important to raise awareness about the well-being and health of our feline friends and their role in the environment. Educating cat owners about proper care is crucial,” Peck said.
“Our goal is to give stray cats a chance at a happy and secure life through adoption. These smart and loving creatures have become family members in many homes. Hard Rock Cafe Manila and Hard Rock Cafe Makati support stray cat communities and cat associations as part of our philanthropic efforts,” he added.
Peck also emphasized the responsibility of pet ownership, urging potential adopters to consider the lifelong commitment involved.
“We must love and respect all cats, whether pedigree or non-pedigree. Their health and well-being should always come first. Owning a cat is a big responsibility, and adopting one is a lifelong commitment. While challenging at times, it is incredibly rewarding,” Peck said.
He continued, “There’s nothing more enriching than the love and companionship animals bring. Every cat, whether stray or not, deserves a loving home. May this Global Cat Day inspire more people to adopt and care for these wonderful animals.”
