Tropical cyclones Nika and Ofel caused significant damage, affecting over 419,900 people across several regions in the Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday.
As per the latest report, a total of 3,214 homes were damaged—2,922 partially and 292 completely—with Cagayan Valley reporting the highest number of damaged homes at 2,739.
The cyclones brought heavy rains and floods to the affected regions, resulting in a total affected population of 419,923 people or 109,263 families.
Cagayan Valley experienced the greatest impact, with 228,635 people (58,171 families) affected. Additionally, the two storms resulted in two reported injuries.
The NDRRMC also reported significant infrastructure damage, including P320.66 million in infrastructure losses and P855,326 in agricultural losses in Central Luzon.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall rendered 164 road sections and 94 bridges impassable, while power outages affected 71 cities and towns. The storm disruptions led to the suspension of operations at 21 seaports and class and work suspensions in 579 and 212 areas, respectively.
A state of calamity was declared in Dilasag, Aurora, where the NDRRMC has provided P23,062,167 in assistance to the affected communities.
