Philippine, Malaysian defense leaders discuss defense cooperation 

Defense officials from the Philippines and Malaysia met at Camp Aguinaldo to discuss defense ties between both nations.
The meeting followed the successful conclusion of the 11th Combined Philippines-Malaysia Defense Cooperation Committee (CCDC) Meeting held on November 14, 2024.

Senior Undersecretary Irineo C. Espino led the Philippine delegation, which included Undersecretary for Capability Assessment and Development Angelito M. De Leon and Assistant Secretary for Logistics, Acquisitions, and Self-Reliant Defense Posture Joselito B. Ramos.

The Malaysian delegation, on the other hand, was led by Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Mohd Yani bin Daud from the Ministry of Defense.

The discussions focused on enhancing defense cooperation, addressing regional issues, and strengthening the defense capabilities of both nations.

The Malaysian delegation reiterated the productive outcomes of the CCDC meeting, during which updates on the West Philippine Sea situation were discussed.

Both parties emphasized the need for a collective approach to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Other key topics addressed in the CCDC meeting included PH-Malaysia diplomatic relations, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR), and advancing defense cooperation. Notably, discussions highlighted the finalization of the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the proposed Defense Science and Industry Working Group (DSIWG), which aims to formalize collaboration in defense technology and industry.

Senior Undersecretary Espino stressed the importance of mutual capacity building in light of shared challenges.

He also noted that technology exchange is crucial for achieving a credible defense posture, particularly with the enactment of the Self-Reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Act.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region while enhancing bilateral defense ties based on mutual interests.
