Firefighters quickly contained the fire within 20 minutes, limiting the damage to the structure’s front, with losses estimated at approximately P500,000.

According to Valencia, the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction known as electrical arcing. The Cultural Center, a landmark in Tagum City for over a decade, was originally built under former Mayor Allan Rellon and was previously Tagum’s City Hall.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, authorities arrested a top fugitive from Camiguin in Davao City on the same day.

Kurt Nino Nicole Canada, the province’s fourth most wanted individual, was apprehended in Buhangin, Davao City.

Canada faces charges related to illegal drugs and was arrested on a warrant issued by Judge Nanette Michote Escalera Lao of Camiguin Regional Trial Court Branch 28. He is currently held at the Buhangin police station.
