The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed that it approved all required travel documents for Undersecretary Zuleika Lopez’s trip from November 4 to 16, despite a lookout order issued by a House panel.
The immigration lookout order was requested by Joel Chua, chair of the House committee on good government and public accountability, against seven OVP officials, including chief of staff Zuleika Lopez.
These officials were cited for snubbing recent hearings concerning alleged misuse of OVP funds, particularly the contested confidential funds.
Chua warned that further absences and dismissal from the Office could lead to contempt charges or potential arrests.
“The OVP Chief of Staff’s travel was personal and unrelated to her employment with the OVP,” the OVP stated.
“Speculations about the purpose of this travel are unfounded and unnecessary. We request respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” it added.
Earlier, the OVP declined to attend the House panel hearing, describing it as “unnecessary and plagued with irregularities,” arguing that the subpoena was invalid.
“The ongoing congressional probe, which originated from Privilege Speech No. 379 by Hon. Rolando Valeriano on September 3, 2024, is not in aid of legislation,” emphasized the OVP.
