LAND Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza II on Friday disclosed the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) approval to waive the payment of penalties for late registration of motor vehicles and renewal of driver’s license amid the devastation brought about by tropical storm “Kristine.”
Mendoza issued a memorandum waiving of penalties on late registration for vehicles with October 2024 expiration and for the driver’s license expiring from Oct. 21 to 31.
“The penalties shall be waived until Nov. 8, 2024. The validity of the driver’s licenses and motor vehicle registrations falling within the mentioned period are likewise extended until Nov. 8, 2024,” he said.
Under the rule on the imposition of penalty for new registration, the counting of days from date of sales invoice shall only commence on the next working day after Nov. 8 for motor vehicles/motorcycles purchased on Oct. 21 to 31.
This developed as the Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical Services Administration (PAGASA) said there is a developing forecast situation wherein KRISTINE will continue moving westward over the West Philippine Sea until tomorrow, loop counter clockwise on Sunday and Monday, then move eastward for the remainder of the forecast period.
However, this scenario heavily depends on the behavior of the tropical cyclone east of the PAR region and the behavior of other synoptic weather systems surrounding KRISTINE while over the West Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA.
