President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Friday praised local government units (LGUs) for their creativity and resourcefulness at the 2024 Galing Pook Awards, which honored 10 outstanding local governance programs.
Addressing the event, Mr. Marcos commended the finalists, drawn from 147 applications across 111 LGUs, and congratulated the 10 awardees for their contributions to improving governance and uplifting their communities.
“These programs prove that when local leaders rise to the occasion, real change can happen,” President Marcos said.
He stressed that the Galing Pook Awards go beyond meeting quotas, highlighting the importance of innovation and courage in governance.
The President acknowledged the role of LGUs in addressing community-specific needs, praising their initiative to find solutions without waiting for national government intervention.
He also stressed the importance of community participation in governance, saying it empowers citizens to influence and assess government decisions.
The president further urged local leaders to continue driving progress, underscoring the need for innovation in a post-pandemic world.
He challenged LGUs to keep pushing for creative solutions to address diverse challenges in sectors like education, health, tourism, and social services.
