Vice President Sara Duterte said Tuesday she is open to reconciling with President Marcos should he and his allies apologize for the death of a Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) member during a police operation in Davao City last August.
The incident occurred when Davao police were serving an arrest warrant on KOJC leader, Apollo Quiboloy, and his co-accused. A male KOJC member reportedly died of a heart attack during the commotion.
Interviewed by reporters, Duterte addressed the possibility of reconciliation but made it clear that an apology is needed first. The vice president earlier apologized to the KOJC community for encouraging them to vote for Marcos.
“Can we reconcile? They need to apologize to the family of the man who died in Davao City during the incident at KOJC. Someone died. They should also apologize to everyone affected by the tear gas and the violence,” she said.
Duterte, whose family has been long-time allies of Quiboloy, also called for an apology for those inconvenienced by the repeated summons at the House of Representatives Quad Committee hearings.
“They should apologize to everyone who has been unable to sleep because they are repeatedly called to the House of Representatives. And it’s not just a casual ‘sorry’—they should name everyone and apologize properly,” Duterte said.
Regarding her strained relationship with Marcos, Duterte reiterated that reconciliation hinges on an apology. “As I’ve said, apologize to everyone. I’ll think about it,” she added.
Last Friday, Duterte criticized Marcos, accusing him of being unfit to lead and claiming she has a list of impeachable offenses against him. When asked about her remarks, Marcos simply smiled without giving a direct response.
