A minor phreatic eruption was observed in Taal Volcano Island’s main crater on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The phreatic eruption lasted nine minutes and was captured by the thermal camera of the Daang Kastila Observation Station (VTDK), VTBC IP Camera at Buco, and VTAG IP Camera at Agoncillo, Batangas.
According to Philvolcs, the event also known locally as “pusngat,” had a 1,500 meter-tall plume that drifted southeast.
Based on the 24-hour observation on Taal Volcano, no volcanic earthquakes were reported but it produced a 1,800-meter voluminous emission which drifted southwest.
On Saturday, Philvolcs recorded an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in Taal Volcano’s main crater lake, with over 1,256 tonnes of Sulfur Dioxide.
Taal Volcano is still under alert level 1 or in a “low-level unrest.”
