DOJ studying possible legal ramifications of VP Sara’s “disturbing” rants

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Monday they are studying potential legal consequences against Vice President Sara Duterte following her “disturbing” two-hour meltdown last week.

Duterte publicly threatened to exhume the remains of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and also disclosed she once daydreamed of decapitating his son and former ally, incumbent President Marcos.

Remulla described her remarks as “unbecoming” for the second highest official of the country. It is a “moral hazard” to listen to statements that violate several moral principles, he added.

The DOJ chief was interviewed by reporters following his attendance to the 2nd anniversary of the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027 (SPJI), the Supreme Court’s blueprint for action on judicial reforms.

Many government officials from all sides of the political spectrum found the recent press conference of the Vice President highly unusual. Senator Aquilino Pimentel III even worried about her mental health that he advised her to talk to close friends, family members, or seek professional help.

“It’s not usual… She verbalized her thoughts, but what she thought about was unusual. I think she needs to talk to someone better than us,” Pimentel told reporters.

Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, son of Senator Imee Marcos, said he was also ‘shocked’ and ‘saddened’ to hear the statements of the vice president against their family, particularly his mother, who has been her “loyal friend and supporter.”

“In my few interactions with VP Sara, she was always friendly and professional. It’s very disheartening to see her making things personal. As many say, this is just politics,” Manotoc said in a Facebook post. “I hope VP Sara finds peace and we wish her well,” he added.
