2 dead, nearly 59K families affected by “Julian”

At least two people have been reported dead after Typhoon Julian battered Northern Luzon, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday.

The disaster response agency’s latest situation report indicates that the two fatalities, which are still being validated, are from the Ilocos and Cordillera regions.

In addition, eight individuals were confirmed injured in Cagayan Valley, while one person is reported missing in Cordillera.

Meanwhile, 58,953 families, or approximately 211,000 individuals, residing in 747 barangays across the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera have been affected by the super typhoon.

Of this number, 308 families (922 individuals) are currently in 26 evacuation centers, while 630 families (2,249 persons) are receiving assistance outside of shelters.

A total of 363 houses have been reported damaged across the three regions.

The agricultural damage in the Ilocos region has been estimated at PHP 35.21 million.
