MMDA announces road closures in Manila this weekend for Pasig River Esplanade launch

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that the city government of Manila will implement a temporary road closure on June 22 and 23 from 12 midnight onwards for the inauguration of the Pasig River Esplanade.

Starting Saturday, June 22 from 12 midnight onwards, Intramuros -Binondo Bridge Northbound shall be closed to traffic.

While on Sunday, June 23 from 12 midnight onwards the following roads will be closed to traffic:

• Intramuros – Binondo Bridge Southbound

• Magallanes Drive

– From Plaza Mexico to Jones Bridge

• Plaza Lawton

– From Jones Bridge to McArthur Bridge

The local government will also enforce a traffic rerouting scheme. It advised motorists to use Padre Burgos Avenue, then turn right to Katigbak, turn right to Bonifacio Drive, straight to Anda Circle to point of destination.

The first phase of the 25-kilometer Pasig River Esplanade, located behind the Manila Post Office, was opened to the public in February.

The open section, stretching from Jones Bridge to the end of the Post Office, features benches for resting after a long walk.

The project is expected to traverse five cities and include jogging paths, bike lanes, and commercial areas with retail stores and cafes. The fountains and lights section are open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., but visitors can visit at any time of the day.
