WestMinCom holds humanitarian training camp in Zamboanga City

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) held on Wednesday a two-day learning session for humanitarian trainers in Camp Navarro, Zamboanga City.

The workshop was organized to develop a deeper understanding of the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which implements the International Humanitarian Law (IHL), in the overall mission and tactical operations of the AFP.

“The activity will increase collaboration between the AFP and the ICRC in integrating IHL and human rights (policies) in the AFP systems and processes,” said WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. William Gonzales.

Among the participants are the civil-military operations officers of the joint task forces, brigades, battalions, and operational command units of WestMinCom.

Subject matter experts were invited to give a lecture on the role and mandate of the ICRC and collectively define the areas of collaboration.
