The municipality of Apalit in Pampanga province goes digital, joining nearly 150 other local government units (LGU) that are now Paleng-QR Ph Plus-ready. More Apalit residents are expected to be onboarded to the formal financial system through widespread use of digital payments in public markets, transport and other business establishments via quick response (QR) codes, the national standard for QR payments. Leading the launch of the program on Nov. 15, 2024 are Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona, Jr., former president and now Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr.
