The Department of Trade and Industry’s Task Force Kalasag (DTI-TFK), together with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), seized nearly P94 million worth of uncertified automotive products from a Quezon City warehouse on Sept. 9, 2024.
It said the operation led to the closure of CSS Autoparts and the confiscation of over 20,000 units of uncertified lead-acid storage batteries and tires for violating the Products Standards Law.
“We refuse to wait for accidents, injuries, or even deaths to happen before taking action. This operation sends a clear message: We will not tolerate the sale of hazardous and substandard products that put lives of Filipinos at risk,” said acting DTI Secretary Cristina Roque.
She highlighted the DTI’s commitment to protecting consumers and supporting legitimate businesses that prioritize quality and compliance.
The DTI’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) confirmed that the seized products violated Republic Act 4109.
“Let us not prioritize saving money at the expense of our safety. Always look for the PS and ICC marks on products and purchase certified automotive products from reputable sources,” said Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) director Fhilip Sawali.
Since its formation in April 2024, Task Force Kalasag has confiscated nearly 31,000 units of automotive-related products amounting to P114.7 million.
