First Gen Corp. of the Lopez Group announced Friday unit 2 of the 97-megawatt Avion Power Plant in Batangas City has resumed full commercial operations using Malampaya gas as fuel.
First Gen disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange it was advised by its subsidiary, Prime Meridian Powergen Corp., that the recommissioning and testing activities of Unit 2 of the Avion power plant using Malampaya natural gas was completed and that the unit was now commercially available on both natural gas and liquid fuel.
First Gen on October 20 said the recommissioning and testing activities of Unit 2 using liquid fuel was already completed and that testing for gas fuel operation was being conducted.
The Malampaya gas project in northwest Palawan, which supplies natural gas to the Avion facility and other natural gas fired power plants, went on maintenance shutdown from October 2 to October 25.
PMPC informed First Gen on August 31 that the compressor of one of two gas turbines that comprise the Avion power plant was damaged.
