Estrada, Tingog hand out TUPAD to 500 in Leyte

Tingog nominee and actress-singer Karla Estrada on Tuesday afternoon led the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) payout to at least 500 beneficiaries in Leyte.

Estrada said she hopes Tingog’s cash-for-work program under the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) led by Secretary Silvestre Bello III will help displaced workers battle the pandemic.

She assured the people the Tingog party-list group led by Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez will continue to work diligently to deliver compassionate programs for the people, including the distribution of cash assistance through DoLE Region VIII.

Norman Uyvico, an official of DoLE North Leyte Field Office, recognized the crucial role of the Tingog Party-list group in the smooth implementation of the program in Eastern Visayas.

Tingog staff Jingle Sudario, who contributed to the hugely successful TUPAD payout, said the party list group also distributed 10 wheelchairs during the event.

Bello said TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

He said only the following types of projects can be supported with such assistance:

• Social community projects, such as repair, maintenance, and/or improvement of common public facilities and infrastructure such as schools and health centers, debris clearing, de-clogging of canals, debris segregation and materials recovery, stockpiling and clearing;

• Economic community projects like repair, maintenance and/or rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads, bridges, post-harvest facilities, public markets and common service facilities such as production and display centers, fishports;

• Agro-forestry community projects, such as tree planting, seedling preparation, and reforestation.
