Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Dr. Willie Ong on Monday filed their certificates of candidacy as standard bearers of Aksyon Demokratiko.
“Today, we made history. I hope it’s destiny,” Domagoso said.
“I will be with you to stop the divisiveness in the country. We are too divisive and indecisive. Give me the chance and let us heal the country,” he added.
The tandem timed the filing of their COC on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals after whom Domagoso was named.
“We will not focus on politics because that’s the reason why government help is delayed,” the Manila mayor said.
Prior to serving as mayor, Domagoso was previously elected as vice mayor and councilor of the capital city.
He served as undersecretary of Social Welfare and Development for Luzon Affairs and chairperson of the Board of the North Luzon Railways Corporation under the Duterte administration.
Ong, for his part, was a consultant of the Department of Health during the Aquino administration. He is a cardiologist and internist.
The doctor, who described himself as a “vlogger,” has 16 million followers on Facebook.
He lost in the 2019 senatorial elections, placing 18th out of 62 hopefuls.
