Former Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman passed away Sunday morning after complications from renal and heart failure, her family announced. She was 68
Vice President Leni Robredo confirmed Soliman’s passing on her radio program yesterday.
“We have received a very sad news that former DSWD secretary Dinky Soliman died this morning (Sunday),” she said. “It is very sad news. She is a very good person.”
Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Richard Gordon, Risa Hontiveros, and Panfilo Lacson extended their condolences, as well as former Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and former presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, who said Soliman “was the smallest member of our Cabinet but the biggest heart among us.”
Soliman served at the helm of the DSWD during the term of former Presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who also died this year. Robredo said Soliman expanded the department’s coverage for cash aid for low-income families.
