Tenya Lokal: Doing good never tasted this good

Tenya, Japan’s number one tempura tendon chain, has tapped local farmers and fisherfolk groups for its farm-to-table initiative, dubbed Tenya Lokal.

“Tenya is part of our community,” said Iggy Ramos, general manager of Tenya.

“If our community is successful, Tenya will also be successful. If our farmers and fisherfolk are doing well, Tenya will also do well. This is a win-win situation,” he added.

Aware of how the pandemic has impacted on the livelihood of those working in the agricultural sector, Tenya now sources its shrimps from Bohol, chicken from Central Luzon, pork from Bulacan, and beef from Mindanao.

“Tenya has selected the best of Filipino ingredients, and our Japanese chefs have treated them with care to prepare dishes that we’re sure our diners will love. These are world-class dishes, made with produce from our own shores,” Ramos added.

Chukri Prieto, Tenya managing director, said: “This is a small step, but this is a step in the right direction.”

“We hope that in our own way, Tenya is able to help jumpstart the road to recovery for these people. We felt it was important to call attention to the pressing needs of our food producers. With our countrymen’s support, we can assure their livelihood,” Prieto added,

With Tenya Lokal, the tempura tendon restaurant has provided a ready revenue stream for local farmers and fisherfolk, eliminating the middlemen and ensuring that only the highest quality produce is served.

The brand has also made its menu more affordable—at a price point perfect for young professionals and just about anybody craving for quality Japanese food. Ramen dishes now start at P145, while donburi bowls are priced at P165 and bento boxes range from P195 to P245.
