Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said he would “definitely” seek reelection in next year’s polls.
In a television interview, the first term mayor said while his administration has made headway in improving a lot of the residents of Pasig City, the achievements were limited given the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Definitely,” he told ANC’s Headstart when asked if he would run for the mayoralty post again in the 2022 elections.
“We’ve made a lot of gains but in truth our efforts were limited because of the pandemic.”
“In the two years now that I have served as mayor, only 9 months were without the pandemic,” he added.
Despite the challenges brought about by the public health crisis, Sotto, who ended the almost three-decade reign of the Eusebio family in Pasig City, said the local government is “building momentum steadily.”
He also downplayed speculations that he will run for a national post next year.
“That is a big joke. First of all, I am only 32 years old,” he said.
The Constitution states that a presidential candidate should be at least 40 years old on the day of the election, while a senatorial bet should be at least 35 years old.
“I don’t entertain such thoughts. I should focus on my job. As cliché as it may sound – people might say I am evading the question – but in truth, I really need to focus now because this is my job,” Sotto added.
