National squads in fencing, volleyball, and cycling have stayed focused on their ongoing preparations despite hearing of the development the other day.

A national open in fencing is currently going on in Ormoc.

At the same time, the selection process involving 111 cyclists who are joining the PhilCycling national trials for road races is set to continue Saturday at the Clark Freeport Zone’s well-maintained roads.

Members of the Philippine men’s and women’s indoor volleyball teams continued with their workouts and training under a bubble setup in Ilocos Norte, starting last July 1.

Even without the SEA Games, they are still getting ready for the Asian Volleyball Confederation men’s and women’s tournaments.

The Philippine Sports Commission is now set to convene with the Philippine Olympic Committee to discuss their plans.

“We will have to discuss this with the board, and with the POC president next week,” said PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez after learning of the cancellation.

The biennial regional meet was originally set on November 21 to December 3, but the SEA Games Federation unanimously decided to call it off because of the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic in four member countries.

Fernandez was supposed to be the chef de mission for the meet.

Training among members of the national contingent, numbering around 560 athletes, was supposed to happen in numerous venues, including Baguio City.
