AiAi Delas Alas whips up a delicious song

It sounds funny when AiAi Delas Alas admitted that she hasn’t made any hit despite being tagged as the country’s Comedy Concert Queen. Though she kind of accepted that fact, it doesn’t mean she’s going to stop creating music and performing for her public. In fact, she’s back to making music.

Speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment, the 56-year-old comedienne explained that she performs on television covering songs of her favorite k-pop girl group, Blackpink, for the very simple reason that it’s her passion and there are people who appreciate what she does.

“No matter what you do, people will always have something to say, so might as well do what makes you happy,” AiAi alluding to the comments of people who don’t quite appreciate her brand of music and comedy.

“It’s better if we would just spread happiness and attract positivity. That’s the main reason why we are releasing a novelty song,” she added.

AiAi has just dropped “Siomai (what?).” Released by Viva Records, the single can now be listened to on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube music. The k-pop inspired music video is also available on Youtube.

So what’s got AiAi to sing about this particular Asian dumpling? Does she just plain love the taste of it? That just maybe the case if we’re going to take her word as she sings and half-raps the following verses: ‘fried man or steam, basta merongtoyo, kalamansi sakasili, para medyo may anghang, para pagkinain ‘to mas malinamnam.’

Or maybe there’s a deeper meaning to it? Because the way AiAi delivers it, one would think that the siomai she’s having is different from the rest. ‘Ang sarapkainin ng favorite kongsiomai, lalopagmainit ‘di namakapaghintay, ‘di ko mapigilan ang sarili ko sasiomaikasi, what? Sarap ay pamatay.’

Well one could start by listening to her first on all the streaming platforms, as “Siomai (what?)” was only recently released two weekends ago. And it comes complete with all the sidings. An accompanying music video was at the ready when “Siomai (what?)” dropped. And for spice, AiAi gets down for some TikTok-worthy choreo. Yes, AiAi knows how to give her “Siomai” special sauce.

Seriously, AiAi just wants to lighten the mood. A year-plus into the pandemic and with everybody still relatively fresh from the latest lockdowns, Ai Ai, as per her character, is not putting out anything serious or upsetting out into the world.

“It’s all about having fun really. Kantahan and sayawan lang, Let’s do this,” she said.
