Government authorities arrested the claimant of a package containing over 622 grams of Ketamine or “party drugs” worth more than P3.1 million in a controlled delivery operation in Caloocan City.
In a statement, the Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA said a certain Kristopher Segumbang claimed the parcel at around noon and was immediately apprehended.
He was the authorized representative of the consignee, a certain “Nick Dimagiba,” to claim the package.
Records showed the package arrived on May 10, 2021 from Malaysia and was declared as “snacks.”
The seized illegal drugs were discovered when the package was subjected to non-intrusive x-ray scanning K-9 sweeping.
Upon physical examination, a customs examiner found 15 sachets of white coffee containing a total of 622 grams of Ketamine, which is classified as dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ketamine, also known as “Special K” or “K,” was originally created as an anesthetic but is commonly abused as a party drug for its tranquilizing effects.
Last week, Customs operatives and PDEA agents also intercepted smuggled shipments of ecstasy worth more than P15 million, and arrested its claimants in Quezon City.
Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero commended the Port of NAIA for its efforts in going after drug smugglers.
He also praised the men from PDEA and the Interdiction Task Force for successfully conducting the controlled anti-drugs delivery operation.
The controlled delivery technique is used when a consignment of illicit drugs is detected.
