Manila City logged a record-high number of residents vaccinated in a single day on Monday, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said.

Domagoso said the Manila Health Department, headed by Acting City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan, broke its own daily record of vaccinees.

The mayor said he expects the city’s vaccination record to reach greater heights as more vaccines are expected to be received by the Manila COVID-19 Vaccine Storage Facility at the Sta. Ana Hospital.

He said “deployment of vaccines should be faster than the spread of COVID-19 infection.”

“We should ensure that vaccination is faster than the spread of infection. If we want to achieve herd immunity, that should be done as soon as possible,” he said in an interview with dzRH.

As of Monday, a total of 194,665 AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinovac, and Sputnik V vaccines have been deployed in Manila, including 57,198 for second dose jabs.

Meanwhile, more than 700,000 families will receive free food boxes from the Manila City government for the fourth consecutive month.

Domagoso said as of Sunday, about 500,000 food boxes have been distributed to Districts 1 to 4 by members of the Department of Public Services, Department of Engineering and Public Works, and Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau.

He said the food security program is the local government’s response to alleviate the public’s economic woes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our policy is to give importance to the nutrition of the people of Manila. The interest of our people must come first. I don’t want anybody to suffer from hunger in Manila. We shall all have something to eat,” the mayor said.
