Adelaide-bound Filipino cager Kai Sotto is assured of a red-carpet welcome when he arrives in Australian to join his 36ers team in the National Basketball League.
There are about half a million Australia-based Filipinos who will form his instant base of fans, according to former Philippine Basketball Association cager Chito Loyzaga, who played in Sydney prior to the NBL.
“The Filipino community there has requested for assistance in getting in touch with Kai’s family in order to prepare a warm welcoming event for him. At the same time, they also are communicating with the Adelaide 36ers team to coordinate things,” Loyzaga told the Manila Standard.
He added that the Filipino community in Australia will be inspired seeing him play in the NBL.
“He will certainly enjoy the hospitality of every Filipino he meets there, what else can he ask for?” asked Loyzaga.
The opportunity for a dual citizenship for him and his family to join him there eventually will also be there for Sotto, according to Loyzaga.
“But he should remain focused on his objective in being there, take his game to the next level, and then take it from there for his future, before particularly suiting up for the NBA. He should not entertain offers from the PBA, I believe,” concluded Loyzaga.
