Former President Joseph Estrada will have a virtual celebration of his 84th birthday today at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan, where he was confined after he tested positive for COVID-19.
"My other siblings have comorbidities. I was designated to lead a video call, and we will bring a cake and blow the candles… it's just simple," said former senator Jinggoy Estrada.
He told dwIZ radio he would give the cake to the nurse taking care of his father.
Asked if they were prepared to have the birthday celebration in the hospital, the former senator said he was told by the doctors they could transfer the former President to a regular room, but he would not be going home on his birthday.
He said his father, who had already been treated for the new coronavirus, felt agitated.
"There was a time he told the nurse if he could go home because he wanted to go home," said the former senator.
"But he will have to spend his birthday in the hospital.”
Jinggoy said the former president had a secondary lung infection due to pneumonia, which was likely hospital-acquired.
"I had to rush to the hospital and I was allowed to enter his room. I visited him once, and I will return,” he added.
