Local flights to continue under MECQ

Major local airlines on Monday assured the public they will continue operating commercial flights during the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.

The government earlier placed NCR Plus (Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna) under MECQ until April 30, 2021, with only essential travel allowed in and out of Manila.

“Philippine Airlines shall continue to operate domestic flights between Manila, Cebu and Davao and other regions of the country, subject to restrictions and requirements of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) and the concerned local government units (LGUs) for each route,” PAL said in its travel advisory.

The PAL management, however, said the temporary suspension of inbound passenger travel to Western Visayas from Manila, Cebu and Davao, has been extended until April 19.

Cebu Pacific Air (CEB), meanwhile, said it will continue to operate its domestic and international flights as scheduled during the MECQ status enforced in the NCR Plus area.

But for CEB clients who wish to postpone their flights and those traveling for non-essential reasons, the airline is offering its preferred option through the Manage Booking portal on the Cebu Pacific website (http://bit.ly/CEBmanageflight) up to two hours before the scheduled time of departure.

Those allowed to travel between NCR plus and other regions of the country are: health and emergency frontline services personnel; government officials and frontline personnel; duly-authorized humanitarian assistance actors; persons traveling for medical or humanitarian reasons; persons going to the airport for travel abroad; persons crossing zones for work or business permitted in the zone of destination, and going back home; returning or repatriated and Overseas Filipinos (ROFs) returning to their places of residence and locally—stranded individuals (LSIs).
