Asia-Pacific Predator League gets underway

Hosting the Asia-Pacific Predator League 2020/21 Grand Final Pan Asia Pacific through online platforms will be a learning experience for organizers this year.

Andrew Hou, president of Acer Pan Asia Pacific Regional Operations, said this on Tuesday as the tournament got underway.

Hou explained that they plan to keep on doing the competitions online even if the COVID-19 pandemic continues until next year.

The pandemic, according to Hou, has opened their eyes to the growing interest among fans to have online gaming competitions be held.

There is huge interest on holding e-sports events, despite  the challenges posed by the pandemic, and the lockdowns and quarantine measures that have been put in place in many countries.

“A lot of countries host the games online, even if we can’t do it offline. So the challenge is to do it offline and online, depending on the situation. And this is also why we decided to do this in 2021. To learn and practice,” said Hou.

Organizers feel that this will prepare them for the eventualities in case the events will be disrupted at any given time by situations involving by pandemic.

The Asia-Pacific Predator League 2020/21 Grand Final will have the best teams across 17 regions in both Dota 2 and PUBG competing for a total prize pool worth $400,000.

The coveted Predator League Shield will be handed down to four champions of the sub-tournaments of the league.

This includes two for PUBG and two for Dota 2.

The APAC Predator League 2020/21 will be broadcast live on Acer Predator’s channels, Facebook and Twitch.

There was no tournament last year due to the 2020 league’s postponement.

Despite the cancellation, organizers saw that interest was still there this year and so they gathered teams across the Asia Pacific region and have them fight it out in an online-only tournament.
