Around 2,500 medical frontline workers in Manila have received the first shot of the vaccine against COVID-19 the since the city government launched its immunization program this month, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said.
In a livestreamed report, Domagoso said 102 frontliners in six hospitals have been diagnosed with the virus since the rollout of the vaccination program. Ten had been administered the first shot of the vaccine prior to their diagnosis.
Domagoso had urged health workers to get inoculated to prevent them from contracting the severe respiratory ailment.
“If you are a medical frontliner, and vaccinated, you have a larger chance of not getting infected. So far, the 10 COVID-positive frontliners who had received the vaccine shot are in good condition,” Domagoso said.
Previously, fewer than 1,900 medical workers in the capital city registered to avail the Sinovac vaccines during its roll-out earlier this month.
To date, Manila has 31,932 COVID-19 cases, with 2,102 active cases, 28,993 recoveries, and 837 deaths.
The city government also recently imposed a stricter lockdown on six villages for four days, following the sudden increase of virus infections:
