The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines has acceded to the request of FESSAP Aquatic Club chairman Allan D. Soria, together with his Executive Members Edgar Galeno, Lualhati Dela Cruz, and Emer Matienzo, to organize the 2nd Philippine University Swimming League competitions in preparation for the country’s participation in the swimming events of the 31st Summer Universiade (World University Games) in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China, from August 18-29, 2021.
The FESSAP Aquatic Club has identified the possible venues for the event — Bulacan, Cavite Provinces, and the National Capital Region.
Soria is inviting all registered collegiate members of the FESSAP to take part in the 2nd PUSL games. Since it is a qualifying tournament, the winners have the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the 31st Summer Universiade Games 2021.
In 2019, Soria, the Sports Director of the Technological University of the Philippines in Manila, backed up by the technical expertise of his executive members Edgar Galeno, Lualhati dela Cruz, and Emer Matienzo, successfully pulled off the inaugural PUSL competitions in the Bataan province in cooperation with the city government proper and Bataan Peninsula State University, a FESSAP school registered member.
Also in 2019, the aforementioned swimming competitions served as a national qualifying to the 30th Summer Universiade held in Napoli, Italy in July of 2019.
TUP emerged as the overall champion in the 1st PUSL, followed by Bataan Peninsula State University, the second-placer. Together with Polytechnic University of the Philippines and La Salle Dasmarinas–Cavite, they represented the country in the Universiade.
Soria has enjoined interested schools to register their membership with the FESSAP so that they may be eligible to participate in the 2nd PUSL competitions.
