GMA Network Inc. said Tuesday it will launch digital TV mobile receiver this year after selling a million units of GMA Affordabox in just seven months.
The broadcasting network said the digital TV mobile receiver, GMA Now, would allow users to watch TV on the go for free.
“We, at GMA Network, express our gratitude to our Kapuso viewers for their continued trust and for wholeheartedly welcoming GMA Affordabox into their homes,” said GMA Network chairman Felipe Gozon.
“Rest assured that we always aim to provide superior quality content across all platforms and improve our digital TV products that are accessible to many Filipinos,” he said.
GMA Network is expanding digital broadcast coverage in Misamis Oriental (including Cagayan de Oro City) and Camiguin.
It is also available in selected towns/cities ib Metro Manila, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Bohol, Cebu, Leyte, Davao de Oro, Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte.
“We believe that every Filipino home should be able to enjoy digital viewing, which is why GMA endeavored to bring GMA Affordabox to our market,” said Regie Bautista, senior vice president for corporate strategic planning and business development, chief risk officer and head for program support of GMA Network.
“Quality digital TV viewing is now made accessible to the majority of Filipino homes. It’s exciting to hit the one million mark only months into its launch, and we are very grateful for the support of our Kapuso viewers,” Bautista said.
GMA earlier said it would invest more than P20 billion from 2021 to 2023 to produce more content and support digital TV expansion.
The company’s projected three-year capital expenditures would support the construction of a new building and state-of-the-art studios inside the GMA Network complex in Quezon City. A huge portion of the budget would also be allocated for content production and post-production.
The budget covers the continuing expansion of its digital terrestrial television reach and various projects in the regions to strengthen GMA’s presence nationwide.
