Caloocan crime rate drops 20%

The recorded crime rate in Caloocan City dropped by 20 percent from October 23, 2020 to January 15, 2021, compared to the same date in the previous year.

This was reported by Caloocan Police Chief Col. Samuel Mina at the Caloocan Peace and Order Council Meeting held last Monday chaired by Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan.

According to Mina, around 148 of the eight focus crimes were recorded compared to the 187 listed last year. He added there was a big drop in theft and robbery cases.

Mina also reported the decrease in the number of those caught violating city ordinances.

During the Enhanced Community Quarantine, local police apprehended “a total of 300 violators a day, but recently the maximum is only around 80,” said Mina.

At the same time, the Caloocan Police ensured that strict enforcement of ordinances and health and safety protocols will continue, especially in public places such as markets.

“We are grateful to our police for their commitment in maintaining peace and order in the city. At the same time, we continue to appeal to our citizens who follow our existing ordinances,” said Mayor Oca.
