132 Caloocan workers get regularized

Over 132 contractual and job order workers who have been serving Caloocan City for several years were given regular positions by Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan on Friday.

“We have given priority to City Hall employees who have been serving the people of Caloocan for over 30 and 20 years but are still not given permanent positions. Most of them are street sweepers, engineering and admin aides, and day care workers,” said Malapitan.

Apart from job orders and contractual workers given with permanent positions, more than 100 regular employees who have not been promoted for several years have been promoted under Mayor Oca’s ongoing program.

According to Human Resource and Management Office head Lorilei Del Carmen, despite the ongoing challenges posed by the government, the Mayor also wanted to pay attention to the regularization program.

“Me and the group of Day Care Workers who were given attention with our status as job orders are grateful. There were mayors who have been in the position but never noticed our hard work. It is only now in Mayor Oca’s term that we are given regular positions in the government,” said Ma. Isabel Clima who has been serving as a Day Care worker for over 31 years.

According to Mayor Oca, this is in gratitude for their long service and concern for Caloocan.

“There should be no politics in public service. With the number of years serving the people of Caloocan, they deserve to be regular employees of the City Government,” he said.

Previously, Malapitan assured the people of Caloocan they will receive Covid-19 vaccines for free this year after the City Government allocated an initial P125-million fund for the jab.

“This is to augment the vaccine to be allocated to our city by the National Government. This is to ensure that if there is a shortage of national government allocation, we have a purchase ready, to ensure that every citizen of Caloocan can be vaccinated so as to ensure safety of all”, Mayor Oca said.

Malapitan said although Caloocan’s P125-million fund is ready, the City Government will still allocate P1 billion in additional funds for the vaccine through a loan.
