Introducing Ricky Gumera

Newcomer Ricky Gumera is one daring actor. In fact, at the recent media conference for Anak Ng Macho Dancer—a sequel to the 1988 sexy drama starring Allan Paule and Daniel Fernando and helmed by Lino Brocka—the 21-year-old former pageant winner stripped down to his tiny undies and flaunted his chiseled physique.

“I guess I got the confidence from joining pageants. In male beauty contest, you need to showcase yourself in front of many people. That’s how I got comfortable,” the 5-foot-10 Ricky said in Tagalog.

Considered a male pageant veteran, the fledgling actor started joining male beauty contest in 2016 until he represented the country at Mister Global 2019 where he finished as one of the 16 finalists.

“It’s a great feeling that you are not just representing yourself, you're representing the whole country. I made a lot of friends in male pageants, especially in the international pageant. Up until now I get to chat with Mr. USA,” Ricky shared adding that he’s no longer interested in joining male pageants, instead, he wanted to just help out those who aspire to be successful in the field.

Meanwhile, acting in his very first film, Ricky had only good words to share about the experience he had shooting for Anak Ng Macho Dancer, which is helmed by acclaimed director Joel Lamangan.

“I did audition for the role, and why not, it’s a Joel Lamangan film,” he started.

“I learned a lot from the director. He’s very strict. I got scolded a few times but I’m proud to say that for the most part, I was able to deliver. I really made an effort to read the script and practice with my co-actors especially when it comes to executing the daring scenes. We didn’t want to do multiple takes,” he carried on.

Portraying a daring role, a macho dancer at that with steamy scenes with his fellow male co-actors, Ricky believes that the film aims to open the minds of the public and teach them valuable lessons about the life of the not-so-priviledged and those who are not fortunate to get a better opportunity.

Mister Global Philippines 2019 and showbiz newbie Ricky Gumera debuts in the sexy drama ‘Anak Ng Macho Dancer,’ a film directed by Joel Lamangan.

“It’s an extremely daring film. There are intimate scenes that could make some people feel uncomfortable. But the movie depicts life. We have to put ourselves in their shoes to understand why they act the way they do and why they chose the profession,” the showbiz newbie explained.

Ricky also assures that the film has other good intentions other than “waking up the viewers’ senses.”

“We wanted the film to go places. Hopefully, the film gets approved to be shown on Netflix. That’s the goal of the producer,” he said and shared that a special screening is also being planned from Dec. 15 to 20 and an actual movie playdate might commence next year apart from being available for streaming online before the MMFF.

"Just watch the uncut version. I'm going to show everything," he teased.

Produced by Godfather Productions led by Joed Serrano, the drama film is written by Henry King Quitain also stars Sean De Guzman in the lead role. Jaclyn Jose, Emilio Garcia, Rossana Roces, Jay Manalo, and Allan Paule complete the cast.
