ShopBack awards P3.5M cashback to 11.11 shoppers

While Filipino shoppers were busy adding to their carts and checking out during the first two hours of 11.11 sale, pre-shopping portal ShopBack was working hard to put cash back into its users’ accounts.

Shoppers are busy adding items into their carts.

According to the platform, it awarded about P3.5 million in cashback to app users during the Nov. 11 mega sale event. The top cash earner received P41,201 on the same day.

“The results of this year’s 11.11 sale just proves that in times of uncertainty, consumers rely even more on mega sale events to access deals and discounts for essential items, fashion goods, groceries, and food delivery,” said ShopBack Philippines country general manager Prashant Kala.

Kala said ShopBack saw a sharp increase in the number of Filipino shoppers going online during the latest mega sale, with data pointing to an uplift of nine times in total traffic on 11.11 compared to an average day.

Data showed consumers flocked to Shopee, Lazada, and Zalora to hunt mainly for health and beauty, food, and fashion products.

“As a whole, the e-commerce industry has been steadily growing in the Philippines as people of all ages and demographics had to turn to online shopping to purchase their groceries, essentials, and more due to COVID-19,” explained Kala.

“The trend of our users purchasing health products; such as vitamins and supplements, food, and sports goods online is reflected in the top categories and top brands,” he added.

First launched in Singapore in 2014, the ShopBack app is a one-stop rewards and pre-shopping platform. Users typically get rebates of 4 to 5 percent, but the number could go as high as 70 percent depending on the partner merchant. ShopBack has 4,000 partner stores internationally, with over 500 of those merchants in the Philippines.
