Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. ruled via tiebreak the 1st Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) national try out at lichess.org on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Antonio, tied for first and second places with United States based Grandmaster Mark Paragua, with 10.5 points in the 12-round Swiss System, 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment time control format organized by Atty. Paul Elauria.
With the highest tiebreak points, Antonio took the title while Paragua finished second.
Rounding up the top 10 were Fide Master Arden Reyes (3rd); Grandmaster Oliver Barbosa (4th); Ellan Asuela (5th); International Master Chito Garma (6th); International Master Ronald Dableo Rivera (7th); Kyle Ochoa (8th); John Michael Silvederio (9th); and Jiggy Miguel Vicente (10th).
Meanwhile, Arena Grandmaster and Fide Master elect Robert Suelo stunned an elite field to capture the second Rojo-J Trading bullet online chess tournament on Friday, October 17, 2020.
Playing black, the 1996 Philippine Junior Champion Suelo downed Ted Ian Montoyo after 39 moves of London System Opening to rule the one-day, Arena two-hour duration event with Arena 127 points.
The Singapore-based Suelo is fresh from winning the Jolina Icao Youtube Channel Arena last October 13.
Inaugural champion International Master Angelo Young halved the point with Fide Master Rico Salimbagat to finish second place with Arena 97 points.
The United States based Salimbagat, on the other hand, finished third place with Arena 96 points.
Rounding up the top 7 winners were fourth MG Reyes (93 points), fifth Ted Ian Montoyo (86 points), sixth Bryan Blair Fallarme (82 points) and seventh AGM Hermie Cagatin (79 points).
